Hello, kiddies.

First of all, if you havent (and you should), check out the second installment of Rubber Souled over at Larry’s Place. This post is in response to a comment left by one of his faithful readers. I would feel terrible if I didn’t come correct and offer this really quick post for him, as well as for the rest of you folks who drop by from Todd’s, Jason’s and Roger’s blogs…

Believe it or not, Ella Fitzgerald did indeed cover “Savoy Truffle”. She cut two albums for Reprise back in 1971. The first, simply called “Ella” is a collection of readings of some Motown standards as well as the aforementioned. The second is called “Things Ain’t What They Used To Be”, which contains more traditional Jazz pieces. Unfortunately the original CD is out of print, but here’s a reasaonable facsimile that is easy enough to obtain.

Please download and enjoy “Savoy Truffle”, an .mp3 file, 4 MB.

And here’s a bonus…

Please download and enjoy “Got To Get You Into My Life”, an .mp3 file, 5 MB.

For those of you who visit here on the regular, I apologise for the lengthy absence. I’ve been quite busy converting stuff in between working seven days a week and such. I’m pleased to announce that things are getting back to normal quickly, so I’ll have more time to post here. For now, it’s way past my bedtime so everyone have a good night. I will do my best to return before the end of the week.

Peace and blessings.

P.S. and speaking of Roger, You’ve gotta go to The Blush Organisation and check out his latest podcast… Lucky number seven. The soul is really sweet, I’ve gotta tell ya.

This version truly does not disappoint!!!What an unusal (but oh so brilliant) choice for Ella. I love how laid back it sounds (no lounge swinging here), really funky stuff….plus I would have thought maybe they would have replaced the cool organ with a piano for her but they left the soulful vibe in there. It really is an “obscure” Beatle track, if that even exists… Thank you so much for this really delightful find. Love the White album, Love Ella. Feel honored to deserve a post!

  2. Thanks for the shout, Vincent.

Is her version of Get Ready on Ella? I own it on 45 and it’s great and sure to turn up on a future podcast.

  3. Nice News! Thanks!
